Description
This is a two-headed cylindrical drum , probably from Cochiti Pueblo , NM . The body is hewn from a single piece of lightweight and light colored wood , probably pine . The surface has been sanded smooth . The heads are cowhide . They are stretched part way down the drum shell and laced together in a W pattern with a thin strip of cowhide threaded through holes in the edges . The drum is played on one head only with a padded beater , which is missing .
