Description	Front page of the Damascene newspaper al-Mufid, printed on Thursday, July 3, 1919. The first article titled “Fi Sabil al-Watan” (for the homeland’s sake) is directed to the youth; author Jamil Merdem Bik extols the “noble and patriotic soul” which animates his young compatriots and reminds them of the monumental role they can play in their country’s independence. The article ends with a call to “prove to the respected Commission that [the youth] is an organized force, well-aware of its responsibilities.” The second article, titled Fi Andiyyat as-Siyyasah (Within the Political Circles) discusses European involvement in Sino-Japanese relations as well as Franco-German conflict.
